Marlins Fight Back for Win Over Nationals

The Marlins avoided a season opening sweep with a 4-3 comeback win on Wednesday

The Miami Marlins avoided a sweep with a 4-3 comeback victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

The Marlins trailed late and then blew a lead of their own, before winning in the tenth inning. Justin Bour doubled home J.T. Realmuto with the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth. A.J. Ramos would then enter for his first work of the season and slammed the door in the bottom half of the inning.

The game was delayed by rain at the start and also featured another in-game pause in the action. The second delay ended Tom Koehler's day early, after only five innings of work. When the skies opened up, Washington led by one as the game headed into the bottom of the sixth.

Koehler allowed one run on four hits during his time on the mound. The right-hander struck out four and walked three in a decent appearance.

After Koehler was lifted and the game resumed, Miami went with Brad Ziegler first out of the pen. Ziegler had his second strong outing of the season, with a perfect frame. The veteran struck out one and only needed nine pitches in the inning of work.

In the seventh inning, Kyle Barraclough entered and allowed a run of his own. Barraclough who is expected to serve a big role in Miami's pen this season, was making his first appearance of the year.

Trailing by two, Realmuto got Miami on the board in a big way, with a two-run home run in the eighth inning. The HR was already Realmuto's second home run of the season and it was part of a 3-4 day for the catcher.

After Realmuto's heroics, the Nationals took the lead right back with a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Junichi Tazawa gave up the go-ahead home run to Ryan Zimmerman. The hit was originally ruled as a triple, but was changed to a home run after a review.

In the top of the ninth, the Marlins were down to their final strike and down by a run. Pinch-hitter Tyler Moore singled up the middle to tie the game and the veteran is now 2-2 on the season. Moore previously played for the Nationals and could be Miami's top pinch hitter option this season.

Miami will head off to New York to begin a three-game series against the Mets on Thursday. Wei-Yin Chen will make his first start of the season in the series opener.
