Marlins Held to Two Hits in Loss to Cubs

The Marlins battled back before falling short in their 5-4 loss to the Cubs on Friday

The Miami Marlins fell to the Chicago Cubs by a final score of 5-4 on Friday at Marlins Park.

After allowing four runs in the top of the first inning, Tom Koehler settled in for Miami. Ultimately, Chicago would score a run off Miami's bullpen late to pick up the win. Miami's offense was held to only two hits which made its comeback attempt more difficult.

The loss came only one day after the Marlins survived to narrowly beat the Cubs. With the defeat, Miami fell to 39-35 on the season and back to .500 at home. The Marlins are only 19-19 in their home park, but are 20-16 away from Miami.

Justin Bour hit a game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the first inning following Chicago's aforementioned four runs. The slam was the second of Bour's career and his 13th home run of the season. Miami had loaded the bases via walks and an error with the slam coming as the team's first hit.

The offense would be mostly quiet from that point forward with Adeiny Hechavarria singling for Miami's only other hit. Giancarlo Stanton was 0-1 with a strikeout and a walk in the loss. In all, the Marlins truck out eight times, and were given free passes five times.

The winning run in the game came off of Mike Dunn who took the loss. Dunn's effort followed on Koehler's six innings of work. Dunn is now 0-1 on the year with a 3.52 E.R.A.

Miami will look to rebound from this loss on Saturday when it sends Paul Clemens to the mound.
