The Miami Marlins and Boston Red Sox saw their 0-0 exhibition game end with two outs in the top of the eighth on Thursday due to rain in Jupiter, Fla.

The game had a bit of controversy involved in it from the start when Boston arrived with a bus mostly full of minor leaguers. The Red Sox did not bring much major league talent with them to Jupiter, which goes against MLB policy. A report by the South Florida Sun Sentinel details the guidelines in that policy which mostly focuses on a minimum of four players being present who are considered regulars in one form or another. The Sun Sentinel goes on to mention that the Marlins planned on contacting the league office about the situation.

As far as the game itself, Nathan Eovaldi started for the Marlins and struggled to keep his pitch count down. What was scheduled to be a three-inning start ended up only lasting two innings. Eovaldi had to throw 49 pitches in those two frames but did hold Boston to only one walk while striking out four. The righthander has now tossed four scoreless innings this spring and has struck out five. Rotation hopeful Brad Hand followed and gave the Marlins two scoreless innings of his own. Hand wasn't as effective as Eovaldi, however, as he allowed four hits while also walking a batter.

Unlike Boston, the Marlins mostly fielded their regular lineup to start the game with the lone exceptions being first base and the presence of a designated hitter. But that lineup was kept quiet, compiling a total of only two hits against Boston's pitchers. Christian Yelich remained hitless on the spring for the Marlins and is now 0-11 with five strikeouts. Yelich is expected to be the everyday left fielder for Miami and is likely just off to a slow start. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was facing his ex-teammates for the first time since their 2013 championship run, was 0-2.

The Marlins will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday with Henderson Alvarez scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut.
