The Miami Marlins beat the Houston Astros on Friday 7-2 and continue to pace the Grapefruit League with a 15-7 record.

Nathan Eovaldi started for Miami and hurled 4.1 innings in which he allowed a pair of runs on six hits. Eovaldi was credited with the win to improve to 1-1 on the spring per the official box score.

It wasn't the strongest showing for right-hander, as he did not go deep enough into the game and walked three to go along with the aforementioned six hits. Arquimedes Caminero and A.J. Ramos, who will likely both be in the bullpen on Opening Night, turned in a scoreless inning each. In the ninth, Chris Hatcher continued his excellent spring with a perfect inning. Hatcher may not make the team on Opening Night, but he could see time later in the season.

Garett Jones hit a two-run home run in the first inning in what was a two-hit day for the first basemen. Jones also singled while knocking in a total of three runs in the game. It was good to see for Miami, as Jones has struggled this spring. Fellow newcomers Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jeff Baker both were 0-3 and have also been subpar in the spring overall. A positive sign overall for the offense, however, was a 4-7 day as a team with runners in scoring position. That is a number that the 2013 Marlins struggled mightily with.

Jake Marisnick continued to open eyes with a three hit day including a double. The outfield hopeful is now hitting .429 and is continuing to put himself in the picture for a starting job on Opening Night. At this point, Marcell Ozuna is likely considered the underdog despite entering the spring as the favorite to win the last starting job for an outfielder. Marisnick also stole his fourth base of the Grapefruit League, showing he can do more than just spray hits and play above average defense.

On Saturday in Jupiter, the Marlins are set to take on the New York Mets with Brad Hand on the mound. Miami also has a game in Viera against the Washington Nationals with Henderson Alvarez scheduled to start.
