Panthers Limp Into Break With 4th Straight Loss

The Panthers continued to struggle as they dropped a fourth straight decision on Monday

The Florida Panthers entered the All-Star break on a down note with a fourth straight loss on Monday to the Vancouver Canucks.

The final score of the loss was 2-1 and completed a rough stretch at home. The Panthers played the last three games on their home ice and were unable to win any of them. This skid followed on a fantastic 4-2 stretch on the road.

The Panthers remain in ninth place in the Eastern Conference but missed opportunities to gain on the teams around them. Both above and below Florida, teams have seen recent losses. Due to the poor stretch, Florida finds itself only three points ahead of tenth place Toronto.

Roberto Luongo who is headed to Columbus for the All-Star Game saved X of the X attempts sent his way. Monday's effort capped off a stretch of 11 goals allowed in the last four games for Luongo. Even with the All-Star commitment, the goalie will have a chance to get some much needed rest before the schedule resumes.

At the 17:28 mark of the third period, Florida finally got on the board when Brandon Pirri put home his fourth goal of the season. The score was unassisted and it ended up being the only goal of the day for the Panthers.

Sean Bergenheim and Scottie Upshall were healthy scratches for Florida on Monday.

The schedule will resume on January 27th when the Panthers take on the Detroit Red Wings at BB&T Center.
