Panthers' Marchessault Scores Twice in Loss to Maple Leafs

Jonathan Marchessault's two goals were wasted in Florida's 3-2 loss on Thursday

The Florida Panthers received two goals from Jonathan Marchessault in their 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

The loss dropped Florida's record on the season to 3-3-1 and was the team's fourth loss in its last five games. The Panthers are 0-2-1 so far when playing on the road this year.

Marchessault scored at the 6:55 mark of the first period to put Florida up 1-0. The goal was the fourth of the season for Marchessault which leads the team. Jaromir Jagr assisted on the goal.

After Buffalo tied the game, Marchessault gave Florida back the lead with his fifth goal of the season. The power play goal had assists on it from Roberto Luongo and Keith Yandle. The assist was the tenth of Luongo's career and the goalie's first since the 2011-12 season.

This was the second straight game that Florida led early, before ending up on the wrong end of the final score. James Reimer was in the net for Florida's last game that got away. In this one, Luongo served as the goalie and stopped 25 of 28 attempts he had.

Florida did a good job of killing Toronto's power plays to stay within striking distance. The Maple Leafs were 0-2 on their power play opportunities, while the Panthers were 1-3 on their tries.

The Panthers will play the first half of a back-to-back on Saturday in Buffalo against the Sabres.
