Panthers Return Home With Win

The Panthers played at home for the first time in over two weeks and were 2-1 winners on Thursday

The Florida Panthers won for the first time at home this year with their 2-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.

It had been 17 days since the Panthers took the ice at BB&T Center as they were on the road for a long four-city trip. Florida played well while on the road and picked up two wins along the way along with a couple of close losses.

Brandon Pirri continued to be an asset for the Panthers with his third goal of the year. Pirri who missed games early in the year as a healthy scratch now has a goal in three straight games. In fact, the 23-year old only didn't score in his first game of the year back on October 18th. This goal came during the second period on a power play and assists were credited to Jussi Jokinen and Erik Gudbranson.

The game-winning goal came courtesy of Scottie Upshall in the third period and it was his first goal of the year. Tomas Kopecky and Derek MacKenzie assisted on the goal. Upshall also has an assist this year.

Roberto Luongo put together another good effort in this one. The goalie saved 32 of his 33 chances with the one goal coming on a power play in the first period. After starting the year with a couple of subpar outings, Luongo has been on a nice roll for Florida.

Jimmy Hayes and Colby Robak were healthy scratches once again for the Panthers while Dave Bolland missed another game with a lower body injury.

Florida will stay home and take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
