Panthers Top Devils in Overtime

The Panthers blew the lead before beating the Devils in overtime on Thursday

The Florida Panthers beat the New Jersey Devils by a final score of 4-3 in overtime on Thursday.

The win was the second for Florida in two games against New Jersey this year. Florida now has 11 points and continues to defend the ice at BB&T Center. The Panthers have struggled on the road, but are 4-2-0 at home with this victory.

With his second goal of the season, Aaron Ekblad got Florida on the board first. Ekblad's goal was at the 12:58 mark of the first period during a power play. Assisting on the score were Jonathan Marchessault and Keith Yandle.

During another power play, the Panthers made it a 2-0 game when Denis Malgin found the back of the net. Jason Demers and Colton Sceviour were credited with assists on the score.

Vincent Trocheck would give Florida a 3-1 lead at the 4:29 mark of the third period. Assisting on Trocheck's fifth goal of the season were Jaromir Jagr and Mark Pysyk.

Trocheck would score the game-winner as well in OT with his sixth goal of the season. The goal was unassisted.

James Reimer was given his fourth start of the season and did a decent job in Florida's net. With 31 saves, Reimer improved his record on the year to 2-1-1.

The Panthers will head back onto the road on Saturday for a game against the Washington Capitals.
