Series Preview: Marlins at Rockies

The Marlins will finish their road trip with a weekend series in Colorado against the Rockies

The Miami Marlins will begin a three-game weekend series with the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

The Marlins are 3-3 on their road trip thus far and have lost three of their last four games. Miami is 29-46 on the season and remains in last place in the National League East. The Rockies are sitting in fourth place in their division with a 37-38 record.

Wei-Yin Chen will start for the Marlins in the series opener and will need to be careful at Coors Field. Chen has ran into problems with home runs this season and Colorado can exacerbate an issue such as that. Chen has allowed nine home runs in his ten starts this season. The Rockies meanwhile have one of the more powerful lineups in all of baseball.

Trevor Richards struggled his last time out, but will have a chance to make up for it when he starts Saturday's game. Richards is 1-4 with a 5.45 E.R.A. in his rookie season for the Marlins. The right-hander has been inconsistent this season and a little too hittable at times. Richards has done a good job of keeping the ball in the park, but he has had trouble with his control at times.

The Marlins will turn to Caleb Smith in Sunday's series finale and will be looking for another victory. Miami has won Smith's previous three starts and five of his last six overall. Smith is 5-6 with a 4.03 record, but the results haven't been as stellar as of late. Smith has allowed seven runs in his last 10.1 innings.

Miami's run into some problems offensively recently and Coors Field could help alleviate those issues. J.T. Realmuto has yet to hit a home run in his career at the ballpark, but he is hitting a robust .435 with four doubles and a triple. Realmuto's on-base percentage in Colorado is a solid .500 as well.

Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m.
