Series Preview: Padres at Marlins

The Marlins will wear throwback uniforms during their weekend series with the Padres

The Miami Marlins will wear their original uniforms when they host the San Diego Padres this weekend.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise, the Marlins will bring back teal for three games. Miami will wear the look of the 1993 Florida Marlins all weekend long. The Marlins have worn throwbacks in previous seasons, but they have never previously brought back their old teal hat.

The Padres have been playing better as of late, but they remain a last place team. At 29-35, San Diego is currently six games ahead of Miami in the Wild Card standings. Neither team is expected to make a playoff push, but the two clubs could end up competing for draft positioning.

Miami will send ace Caleb Smith to the mound for the first game of the series. Smith is a potential All-Star and he dominated San Diego last month. Smith possesses a 4.03 E.R.A, which was heavily inflated by his last outing. Smith allowed five runs in four innings and will try and turn things back around in this start.

Dan Straily is 2-2 with a 3.50 E.R.A thus far and he will start Saturday's contest. Straily began the year on the disabled list and was rusty upon his return. The veteran has been pitching better as of late, though he did fall to the Padres in May. In that outing, Straily allowed five runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

Jose Urena finally picked up a win in his last start and now will try and pick up another victory on Sunday. Urena was not sharp in the outing, but he benefited from strong run support. The right-hander had not received much of that support in his other appearances. Urena had a solid 3.96 E.R.A in May, after struggling to begin the 2018 season.

Lewis Brinson clubbed two home runs in Miami's last series and he could find an extra boost from these three games. Brinson grew up as a fan of the Marlins and will now wear that same old look. One of Brinson's idols Juan Pierre will be in attendance for the series as well. Brinson is hitting only .168 this year, but he does have nine home runs.

The series will get underway on Friday at 7:10 p.m.
