KENYA's SUMGONG WINS WOMEN'S MARATHON

UPDATE: Kenya's Jemima Sumgong wins the women's marathon, a first-ever gold for Kenya in the event. Three Americans placed in the top 10.
Amy Cragg and the other women’s marathoners hit the streets of Rio Sunday morning. Cragg said she cried for a month after finishing fourth at the 2012 U.S. Olympic marathon trials, missing the U.S. team by one spot. Four years later, she won the U.S. Olympic marathon trials by 33 seconds to earn a trip to Rio.
IS BOLT STILL THE WORLD’S FASTEST MAN?
Usain Bolt looks to prove he’s still the fastest man on the planet as he competes in the men’s 100m semifinal and final.
Bolt’s mother Jennifer visited her son in the Olympic village Friday and said he’s ready to defend his title.
She said he told her, “Mom, if I wasn’t ready, I wouldn’t be here because I’m not into the losing thing. I’m ready.’’

SIMONE BILES WINS MORE GOLD
UPDATE: Simone Biles wins her third gold of the Olympic games capturing the women’s vault title with a score of 15.966. Biles will go for her fourth gold Monday on the women’s balance beam.
KEEPING IT PERFECT
UPDATE: The U.S. men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to action on Sunday. The women, who have won all their games easily, routed China before heading to the knockout round with the top seed. On the men’s side, the team had another close call, topping France 100-97.
THOMPSON LOOKS FOR VOLLEYBALL GOLD IN HER OLYMPIC SWAN SONG
Courtney Thompson and the U.S. women take on China in the preliminary stage of the women’s Olympic volleyball tournament.
Thompson, who joined the U.S. women’s national team in 2007, made her Olympic debut in the 2012 London Games where the U.S. women won silver. Win or lose Thompson has said Rio will be her last Olympics.
“I'm definitely going to be done playing after Rio,” Thompson said. “I've been overseas nine years. It's super fun and it's cool and we get to do all of this amazing stuff but you're also out of the country for like eight, nine months of the year. I just want to be around my friends and family.”

MATT EMMONS FAILS TO QUALIFY IN 50M RIFLE POSITIONS FINAL
UPDATE: Three-time Olympic medalist Matt Emmons failed to qualify in the 50m rifle three positions final. Emmons began shooting competitively in high school. The Mount Holly, New Jersey, native gave all three Olympic shooting disciplines a try before deciding to pursue rifle shooting exclusively.
COOK ELIMINATED IN 3M SPRINGBOARD SEMIS
UPDATE: Team USA’s Kassidy Cook and Abby Johnston faced off with China’s powerhouse divers Shi Tingmao and He Zi.
After missing qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics by one spot, Cook suffered a string of injuries and needed major reconstructive shoulder surgery, a second shoulder surgery and a knee surgery. After rehab she earned a second quota spot for the U.S. at a qualification event in Feb. 2016.
Cook closed with her best dive Sunday, a 70.50-point forward 2.5 somersault with one twist, but her 304.35-point total left her 3.90 points away from qualifying, in 13th place.
