Cigarette Lighter Mistaken for Grenade Causes Evacuation at Miami International Airport: Officials

A woman's cigarette lighter caused an evacuation Christmas Eve at Miami International Airport after it was mistaken for a grenade, authorities said.

Terminal J was evacuated for 40 minutes as a bomb squad examined the suspicious object, according to Lauren Stover, the security director at the airport.

Officials said the lighter was found in luggage at the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint sometime around 12 p.m.

Some passengers experienced flight delays, but the airport was back to scheduled activity soon thereafter.

No charges were filed, a FBI spokesman said.
