Elderly Golfers Beat Teenager for Blowing Air Horn: Police

Two 71-year-old men accused of beating a 15-year-old for blowing an air horn.

Two elderly golfers stand accused of taking revenge on a teenager for blowing an air horn during their game at a northwest Florida country club.

The 71-year-old men — Ronald E. Richardson and Donald E. Nieto — were arrested and slapped with child abuse charges after they allegedly beat a 15-year-old with metal golf ball retrievers on Monday. Their motive? The victim and friends blew an air horn near the golfers just as they teed off at the ninth hole, police said.

According to NWFDailyNews.com, a website based out of Florida's Emerald Coast, Richardson and Nieto approached the teenagers to lay down a good scolding, but the mischief-makers ran off. When the as-yet-unidentified 15-year-old victim returned hours later to retrieve a forgotten jacket, Richardson and Nieto gave the teenager the Tarantino treatment with a golf ball finder "to keep him from being able to pick up his jacket," according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest reports.

Richardson told police the teenager did not threaten him or his golfing companion. He admitted hitting the victim three or four times on his back side "and maybe on his arm," according to the arrest report.

Nieto at first denied attacking the teenager until he was shown video footage shot by one of the other teenagers at the scene, according to NWFDailyNews' report.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said the teenager was not seriously injured in the attack.
