Business Burglar Caught on Tape in Doral

Suspect caught on video kicking way through office building

A burglar caught on surveillance video from October 8 can be seen casually walking through a Doral business office, even stopping to look directly into the security camera.

Eventually, the suspect is caught kicking in the doors to at least four separate offices at 8180 Northwest 36th Street, making off with laptops and electronics police say are worth up to $8,000.

Attorney Arnold Trevilla works down the hall on the third floor. Since the incident, he has decided to install an alarm system and back up his computer files.

"We keep very confidential files," he said. "We have over 1,500 files and they're all computerized on a hard drive, so had he stolen our computers it would have affected our business deeply."

Doral Police Chief Ricardo Gomez says the businesses that were hit did not have an active security system.

"The alarm in this business failed to go off, and what people should do is once a year check their alarms make sure their alarms are functioning correctly," he said.

Neighbors in the building said part of the problem is easy access to the main entrance.

"I think these guys just hang around outside and as soon as the door opens up, they sneak in, and there's nobody that's going to chase them [or] say 'What are you doing here?'" said Anthony Robledo.

Police believe the man caught on tape is responsible for several other burglaries in Doral. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
