The 10 Craziest Diets in History

Would you swallow a tapeworm to lose weight? How about replacing all your food with cotton balls?

It's almost April, which means we're thisclose to being reminded that it's almost bikini season, which means it's time to talk about the winter weight you've packed on. How's that working out for you?

While logic would dictate that a nice balance of healthy meals and exercise would guarantee the shedding of those few pounds, that hasn't stopped nutty diet schemes from capturing the public imagination (and wallet) for as long as thin's been in. Neatorama rounds up the 10 Craziest Diets in history, from the tapeworm diet (popular at the turn of the 20th century, especially with jockeys -- we assume this is so they'd be lighter on their horses?) to the Sleeping Beauty diet (involves being sedated so you sleep through all your meals; possibly awkward if you have an office job) to the very high-in-fiber cotton ball diet where, well, where you eat cotton balls and very little else. They are filling.
