    A chill, outdoor bar with reasonable drink prices and good music? You're not on the Beach anymore, Dorothy.

    Are you still sitting on the corner of Ocean and 8th, sadly gazing into your cocktail, remembering the reign of Versace? Well, it's time for a new venue.

    News Cafe certainly remains a great locale for a tasteful and tasty outdoor meal, but if you want to dodge the tourists, hit the cafe's sister bar located just north of midtown, the News Lounge.

    Even though it opened just a year ago, this place has already become a social staple for locals of all tastes. The covered courtyard is dotted with comfy, colorful couches and wooden porch swings. The atmosphere: beach bungalow meets railroad train smoking car. In a good way.

    Tuesdays are a great night to hear local performers and Thursdays offer an extended happy hour till midnight. The DJs spin just loud enough so you can still hear your friend's gripes about the boy-of-the-week.

    There's also a pool table in the back and board games for the ADD set.

    This classy joint only serves snacks and sandwiches, but it's part of the 55th Street Station, which includes culinary options like Soyka and Sushi Siam.
