GYM: March is National Nutrition Month. In addition to keeping up with your workout routine, “Get Your Plate in Shape,” the theme of this year’s campaign. Do so by trying out these simple tips:

-Veg out. Go for green, red and orange veggies, like spinach, broccoli, asparagus and bell peppers, to reap the most health benefits. When it comes to fruit, citrus, apples and berries also add color to your diet.

-Aim for whole grains. Instead of white starches, try one-hundred percent whole grain breads and pastas. To make sure you’re reaching for the right grain, look for the word “whole” as the first ingredient on the back of the package.

-Mix and Match your proteins. Seafood, beans, nuts, fish, eggs — there’s a plethora of proteins out there just waiting to land on your plate. Make breakfast, lunch and dinner a different option.

-Eat smart. Cut back on sodium, empty calories, fats and added sugar. We know it’s hard to shy away from the chips, chocolate and fries, but in the end you’ll be glad you did.

To get more info about eating right this month (and hopefully thereafter), check in with a nutrition expert at The Sports Club/LA.
