Transit Announces June Closing

Hold us! Brickell's long-time live music haunt Transit Lounge announced last night it is shutting its doors for good at the end of June, when its building heads into foreclosure.

"We fought the good fight," said owner William Edwards in a written statement, "but the banks just aren't lending and the landlords did the best they could but the writing is on the wall."

At least Miami gets to say goodbye after nine years and reasonably priced drinks. Transit will operate with normal business hours until the end of June and plans a series of celebratory concerts to mark almost a decade of live music, with a final local band band showcase blowout.

And before you break out that second hanky, take heart: the Transit twitter shortly announced owners are opening a new venue this summer, a downtown joint called Avenue D. Perhaps Miami's live music scene will survive after all?
