Severe Thunderstorm Warning for South Florida

Gusts of up to 60 mph have developed in parts of Miami-Dade County

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 12:45 p.m. in South Florida.

Severe Thunderstorms with gusts of up to 60 mph have developed in parts of Miami-Dade County. They will move southeastward between 35 mph and 50 mph.

Areas affected include: Miami, Miami Beach, Goulds, Redland, Key Biscayne, and Homestead.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued when thunderstorm wind gusts reach 58 mph or higher, 1" diameter hail (quarter size) or greater falls, or a tornado is spotted.
 
In addition, severe thunderstorms contain dangerous lightning and produce heavy downpours.
 
Tornadoes can form with little advanced noticed.  If you see a tornado or a Tornado Warning is issued in your area, move to an interior room on the bottom floor of your home.
 
Lightning can strike from more than 10 miles away, so seeking shelter immediately is very important when you hear thunder or see lightning.
