Tropical Storm Sean Forms Near Bermuda

Tropical Storm watch issued for Bermuda as storm forms in western Atlantic

Sean transitioned froma subtropical to a tropical storm Tuesday in the western Atlantic between the Bahamas and Bermuda.

Sean had maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and was about 425 miles southwest of Bermuda, where a Tropical Storm watch was issued early Tuesday.

The storm was expected to remain stationary today but by late week it will move northeastward. The center of Sean was forecasted to track to the west of the island Friday.

Residents there were urged to follow the system as tropical storm force winds extended 380 miles from the center.  Even a passage of a couple hundred miles from Bermuda could cause strong winds.

Sean is not a threat to South Florida.  Breezy conditions persisted Tuesday with a tight pressure gradient between the newly formed storm and high pressure affecting the east coast. As a result, the rip current risk remained high and small craft advisories continued.
