Tropical Storm Gert Churns Near Bermuda, Poses No Threat to U.S.

Tropical Storm Gert is forecast to hit Bermuda late Sunday or early Monday

The seventh tropical depression of the season has strengthened into Tropical Storm Gert near Bermuda, according to the National Hurricane Center's 2 p.m. advisory.

Gert is located 275 miles south-southeast of Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean, posing no threat to any part of the United States.

It has moved slightly to the west but is expected to turn northwest later on today.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued in Bermuda, where the storm is expected to reach late Sunday or early Monday. Gert has maximum sustained winds of about 49 mph, according to the NHC.
