Spence-Jones Is In – And Out – Again

Gov. Charlie Crist expected to suspend commissioner again on Wednesday

Congratulations, Michelle Spence-Jones. You've won the District 5 Miami City Commission seat.

We also regret to inform you that you have been suspended indefinitely. Signed, Gov. Charlie Crist.

That's what the new, old District 5 commissioner can expect to hear Wednesday, less than 24 hours after she celebrates an election win.

So Miami is right back where it started before the special election Tuesday, trying to fill a vacant city commission seat.

Spence-Jones won back her seat for the second time in as many months, but Crist has already said she would get the boot - again - because of her pending criminal charges for allegedly stealing public money and funneling it to several family-owned businesses.

Of course, Spence-Jones denies the allegations and apparently voters in District 5 believe her or just don't watch the news. Spence-Jones expects to be suspended in the morning, but she also hopes a Miami-Dade judge blocks any move Crist might make.

She is on a roll, so why not push her luck?

One thing has changed as a result of Tuesday's election.

The Miami Commission will be able to appoint a Spence-Jones replacement if she is suspended again. Wilfredo Gort was voted in to represent District 1, replacing Angel Gonzalez, who also got the boot by Crist for pleading guilty to public corruption charges.
