Nelson began his career in 2017 at KRGV-TV, Channel 5 News in McAllen, Texas. He then joined WJAX-TV, Action News Jax in Jacksonville, Florida in 2019. That same year he received an Emmy® Award nomination for his reporting on the Jacksonville Landing mass shooting.
As a young child in Hawthorne, a small town in North Central Florida, Nelson imagined he would one day be a sportscaster.
