Valerie Ryan

Valerie Ryan is a reporter and multi-media journalist (MMJ) at WTVJ / NBC6. She joined NBC6 in October 2025.

Prior to NBC6 Ryan spent close to three years as an MMJ and news anchor at News 12 Bronx & Brooklyn.

From a young age Ryan knew she wanted to work in media, but decided to pursue a career in TV news after taking a journalism class in college. She says she’s most passionate about telling people’s stories with depth and fairness, giving equal voice to every side and using her work to help inform, inspire and drive meaningful change.

One of her biggest professional successes has been breaking and developing local stories that led to real-world impact. While working in New York City, she covered neighborhood issues like housing, public safety, and city services that prompted action and resulted in meaningful change. That experience reinforced why local journalism matters—holding institutions accountable and giving a voice to the community.

Ryan grew up in Queens, New York, was a competitive gymnast for five years and attended a performing arts high school. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in psychology from Buffalo State University in New York. She also played volleyball at the collegiate level and still loves playing.

Exercise, mental health and traveling are things Ryan is passionate about. She’s always seeking new places, new perspectives and a balanced healthy life.
