The situation occurred at the hospital's emergency department

Orlando SWAT team members arrived at the scene. Police chief expected to provide briefing soon on situation at hospital.

The Orlando Police Department said a man who claimed to have a gun inside of a hospital has been shot and killed by police. The man was not armed.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said the suspect did not have a gun but made movements "consistent with retrieving a firearm" after claiming to have a weapon.

Officers went to the hospital "in response to a male subject who is claiming to be in possession of a weapon," police said.

Police said the area should be avoided as the situation, though contained, is ongoing. Orlando Health said no injuries occurred.
