Hundreds of Barry University Students Hold Brides Walk

With her tennis shoes laced and her wedding gown on, Josie Ashton once again took part in Barry University’s annual College Brides Walk. “This is an event that has become an annual event not only here in Florida but all over the United States to raise awareness about teen dating violence and about violence in general against men, women and children,” Ashton said. She started the Brides Walk 12 years ago as a Florida International University student, walking from New Jersey all the way to Miami to bring awareness to domestic violence after the tragic death of Gladys Ricart. Mackenzie Trumbul, who is a survivor of domestic abuse, said the event empowers him.
