Nevin Shapiro's Attorney, Maria Elena Perez, Defends Role in NCAA Probe of University of Miami

Maria Elena Perez defended her involvement in the NCAA investigation of UM in an interview with NBC 6 Wednesday. Perez, who was paid by the NCAA to use her subpoena power to depose witnesses under the guise of a bankruptcy case, said she believes the NCAA’s wrongful conduct was imputed to her. “I think I have more than enough information and evidence to show that I was led down the primrose path. No one ever told me, we’ve had a problem,” she said.
