New Testimony About Growhouse Shootout at Bond Hearing

On Friday a judge heard from three officers who were involved in a police shootout outside a marijuana growhouse that left Miami-Dade Det. John Saavedra severely wounded last July. FBI agent Raul Perdomo and detectives Donald Law and Jorge Milan testified on the second day of a bond hearing for Luis Lazaro Estevanell, 60, who is seeking to be released while he awaits trial on second-degree felony murder and drug charges. Video showed Estevanell scuffling with Law and Saavedra as Perdomo walked a few feet behind before homeowner Gerardo Delgado got out of a car and began shooting at the officers, who returned fire. Milan testified that he believed he shot the fatal bullet at Delgado. Estevanell scrambled for cover, and his 911 call was played Friday in court. The bond hearing continues next week, when Saavedra is scheduled to testify.
