South Florida Honors U.S. Military in Veterans Day Ceremonies

Ninety-four years after the first Veterans Day, communities across South Florida were honoring those who’ve served in the U.S. military. Lee Daily told NBC 6 South Florida that the day was extra special for him. “My father was killed in World War II, and it’s a special day to me, and my mother’s birthday would’ve been today, so it’s a double special day,” he said. Miramar Mayor Lori Moseley said the word ‘veterans’ has a different meaning in modern times. “I think the whole word ‘veterans’ takes on a whole different meaning today because it used to be wars that we used to read about,” he said. “Today there are wars going on, and there are veterans coming home, and there are families waiting for them to come home, and it’s so important as a nation, and to me mostly as a community, that we help take care of their families also.”
