South Florida Gymnast Paralyzed in Fall Healed With Experimental Treatment

Gymnast Jorge Valdes’ spine and neck were seriously damaged when he landed on his head while attempting a double flip with a twist in February 2011, but he was healed after experimental treatment by doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Valdes and his mother Edith Valdes-Engula spoke about his experience. Jackson CEO Carlos Migoya said Valdes’ success story is why November’s $800 million bond issue to upgrade Jackson is so important.
