Teen Run Over by Broward County Bus “Looked Very Panicked,” Attorney Says

Five days after 14-year-old Jerry Cunningham was run over by a Broward County Transit bus, his family’s attorney, Glen Levine, spoke about the incident at a news conference Wednesday. The teen ran to catch the bus in Pompano Beach Friday morning, but his hand got stuck in the door before he fell underneath the vehicle. “You can see his face looked very panicked in the video,” Levine said. He added that it appeared Cunningham “was trying to remove his hand to save himself.” The attorney placed the blame on bus driver Reinaldo Soto, saying he broke the rule of common sense as he kept driving for seven additional seconds. Soto, 55, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
