13-Year-Old Girl Arrested, Facing Felony Charges Over School Threat: BSO

Stoneman Douglas students head to Tallahassee to discuss gun laws with Florida legislators. NBC 6’s Ari Odzer reports from one of the buses on the way there.

A 13-year-old girl who allegedly threatened the life of students at Lauderdale Lakes' Central Charter School on Instagram has been arrested and faces felony intimidation charges.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said the girl made the threat at about 8:30 p.m. on Monday, adding she gave two dates: Tuesday and Thursday.

"Broward Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit immediately investigated the threatening message," BSO said in a statement. "On Feb. 20, the girl told deputies that the post was done in jest. However, her parents were concerned enough to keep their daughter home from school for the day not knowing at the time that she made the threat."

The sixth-grader's alleged threat occurred less than a week after the deadly Parkland school shooting tragedy.
