"The two victims that were there tried to fight for the gun, the gun went off, shot one of the victims and then a neighbor was also shot in the leg," Miami Police spokesman Michael Vega said.

The victims were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, and all were in stable condition, according to authorities.

No arrests have been made. Information on the suspects was not immediately available.

Resident Lisbeth Urbina heard the gunshots going off.

"“I was very much awake around that time that it happened so to me it was really scary, it was like a first-hand experience," she said.

Narcotics detectives, including some who were undercover, were seen searching the apartment and coming out with bags filled with what looked like merchandise.

Residents said they have to have security codes to get in the building, and don't think it was a random home invasion.

"It has to be more than just, it had to be more that just an armed robbery, like they had to have a deeper connection," Urbina said.

The Highley House has only been open for about seven months but some residents said they're not happy with security there. Management sent residents a letter saying security measures would be tightened.

Neighbor Salvatore Mazzola said it was enough to make him consider moving.

"It's really sad that it happened inside my building. It’s a brand new building. I was really excited to move in," he said. "It doesn’t make me feel safe. It makes me feel like I should be getting out of this building even faster than I wanted to."

Neighbor Legend Tarver feels the opposite.

"The area is pretty nice," he told NBC6. "I've been living [in Wynwood] for... the past seven years and a lot has changed, but as far as safety goes, not much goes on here besides people coming here at night and you know, partying at the bars and whatnot."
