Broward City Lifts Sunday Ban on Alcohol

The City of Margate stripped away its ban on alcohol sales on Sunday. Commissioners voted to allow grocery stores and gas stations to sell packaged beer and wine on Sundays beginning at 7 a.m. The previous ordinance restricted booze sales until noon.

Margate’s Senior Planner Timothy Finn told commissioners that the city had received a lot of complaints from residents about not being able to buy beer or wine on Sunday, especially on football game days. Finn said residents were forced to travel to Coral Springs or Coconut Creek to purchase alcohol.

The motion to loosen the ban passed with a 3-0 vote.

Margate is the latest city in Broward to lift such ban. Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park and Coral Springs recently removed their Sunday bans.
