Christopher Wong Won, Founding Member of 2 Live Crew, Dies at 53

Famed 90s rap group, 2 Live Crew, stops by the Live Miami set (sans Uncle Luke)to drop their freshest beats on the Ladies.

One of the founding members of the legendary Miami rap group 2 Live Crew has died, according to reports.

Christopher Wong Won, who founded the group in California in 1984 before signing with the record label of future band member Luther Campbell and relocating to Miami, died Thursday morning in a Miami hospital at the age of 53, according to TMZ.

Campbell later sent out a tweet expressing his grief over Won’s passing.

Known by his stage name of Fresh Ice Kid, Won was one of the first Asian rappers and was part of the group as the rose to fame in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He was arrested after a concert in South Florida along with Campbell and others promoting their album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be”, which had been ruled obscene by a U.S. District Court judge in 1990.

The ruling was overturned two years later.
