The battle between the Town of Miami Lakes and its former mayor appears to be over.
Town officials announced Wednesday that a lawsuit filed by ex-mayor Michael Pizzi has been dismissed.
Pizzi sued Miami Lakes to cover $2.5 million in legal fees incurred during his federal criminal case in 2013.
The former mayor was charged in an undercover FBI operation with accepting $6,000 in illegal cash and campaign contributions. He was later found no guilty by a federal jury and reappointed as mayor in 2015.
The Miami-Dade court found that Pizzi was "not acting in an official capacity or serving a public purpose" when he was indicted.
The court granted Pizzi 20 days to file an amended complaint.
Back in August, Pizzi filed papers to run for a third term as Miami Lakes mayor. He lost that bid in the Nov. 28 run-off election to Miami Lakes Councilman Manny Cid.
