Officials Confirm Case of Mosquito-Borne Dengue Fever in Miami-Dade

State health officials are telling residents to take precautions after confirming a case of mosquito-borne dengue in Miami-Dade County.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County said Tuesday there is a heightened concern with residents becoming ill and is reminding people to take precautions and avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas. Symptoms of dengue fever are high fever, rash and muscle and joint pain. Severe cases can be life-threatening.
