A firefighter was airlifted to the hospital Monday after he was injured in a cooking incident at a fire station in Homestead.

The firefighter, whose name wasn't released, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center from Fire Station 16 on Northwest 4th Avenue, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

"We are aware of an incident that occurred today at one of our fire stations in Homestead. One of our firefighters was injured while performing a daily duty at the station involving cooking. Due to the type of injury sustained, the firefighter was airlifted to a trauma center," MDFR said in a statement. "We thank everyone for their concern and good wishes. The firefighter is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery."
