Florida Gov. Rick Scott Endorses Donald Trump

Gov. Scott called on Republicans to "respect the will of the voters and coalesce behind Donald Trump."

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has endorsed GOP frontrunner Donald Trump for president, urging fellow Republicans to "accept and respect the will of the voters" following Tuesday's victory.

Scott made the announcement via an official Facebook post Wednesday morning.

"With his victories yesterday, I believe it is now time for Republicans to accept and respect the will of the voters and coalesce behind Donald Trump," Scott wrote in the post.

Scott also called for an end to what he described as "Republican on Republican violence," urging Republicans to "get serious" about winning in November.

Trump handily beat Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, even after the hometown senator vowed to win at home.

Rubio suspended his campaign following Tuesday's loss.

"While it is not God’s plan that I be president in 2016, or maybe ever, and while today my campaign is suspended, the fact that I’ve even come this far is evidence of how special America truly is," Rubio told supporters.

Going into the March 15 primary in Florida, where Rubio trailed Trump by double digits, the Florida senator was doing all he could to squeak out a victory in his home state.

Trump addressed supporters at his Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach Tuesday night.

"Florida was so amazing," Trump said. "The fact is, we have to bring our party together. We have to bring it together. We have something happening that actually makes the Republican party probably the biggest political story anywhere in the world...Millions of people are coming in to vote. This was an example of it today."

Meanwhile, Democrats sided with Hillary Clinton in all areas of Florida, but Bernie Sanders got about almost three-fourths of the 18-29 age group and about half of voters who identified themselves as "very liberal."
