The getaway driver in a fatal South Florida robbery has been sentenced to life in prison.
A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 26-year-old Sherman Colson on Monday immediately after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and robbery. Two other men, 25-year-old Thomas Byrd and 29-year-old Kevin Sammiel, have previously received life sentences for the fatal shooting.
Authorities say Dustin Deckard had been walking down a Delray Beach street shortly after midnight in August 2012 when a group of men jumped out of a van, shot and robbed Deckard and then drove away. Police pulled the van over a short time later. Inside were Sammiel, Byrd and Colson, along with Deckard's cell phone.
Deckard was a former high school wrestling star in New Jersey. He had moved to South Florida for drug rehab.
