Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that entry fees will be suspended for all Florida States parks over Memorial Day weekend, at a news conference in Naples on Tuesday.

Entry fees will be suspended for all Florida States parks over Memorial Day weekend, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday.

DeSantis made the announcement at a news conference in Naples. The waived fees run from May 25th to 28th.

DeSantis also took a moment to tout that since 2019, more than $440 million have been invested in state parks.

The conference was held at Naples Yacht Club, where the governor was joined by Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez and Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Shawn Hamilton.

“Just last year, as the governor noted, we welcomed 29 million visitors to our state parks, and generated $3.6 billion in economic impact,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton also praised the governor for making record investments in the Sunshine State's environment.

The President and CEO of the Sanibel and Captiva Chamber of Commerce, John Lai, took a moment to thank DeSantis for his efforts in the recovery and economic revitalization of southwest Florida, including the rebuilding of the bridge to Sanibel Island, following Hurricane Ian's devastation.

DeSantis later addressed nationwide college protests, and ensured that there would be zero tolerance for these protests on Florida campuses.

He agreed with University of Florida's approach to the protests, saying students are allowed to have their views, but won't tolerate the current behaviors on its campus.
