The Homestead man is accused of shooting his father in a dispute over his girlfriend.
A Homestead man is facing multiple charges after he shot his father Wednesday during an argument about his girlfriend, an arrest report said.
Angel Verdin allegedly pulled the trigger outside a duplex in the 800 block of NW 8th Street, the report said. His father was left with critical injuries and is in a medically induced coma, police said.
The shooting stemmed from a disagreement the pair had over Verdin’s girlfriend of seven months, the arrest report said. The details of the argument are unclear, but police said Verdin grew agitated during the initial argument in the duplex.
Verdin allegedly went outside, where his girlfriend was waiting in his father’s car. He gave her something to eat and returned inside to prepare his own dinner plate, the arrest report said.
Verdin and his father became engaged in a second argument and his father went outside to demand his car. He also asked Verdin to tell his girlfriend to leave the premises.
That’s when Verdin allegedly armed himself with a Glock Model 36 and followed his father outside, police said. The father retaliated by punching Verdin on the left side of his face, the report said.
The father allegedly grabbed a stick from his garden at this point, presumably as a weapon. Verdin responded by firing several shots at his father, hitting him in the upper torso and the arm. Verdin then rushed inside to hide the firearm and the video surveillance DVR located in the living room, the arrest report said.

Police said Verdin did not contact authorities until the gun and surveillance video were hidden. The father was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center with critical injuries.
A records check revealed that the Glock was stolen and that Verdin was a convicted felon.
Verdin is facing multiple charges, including attempted felony murder, tampering with physical evidence and grand theft. He was arrested and transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
