A fatal car crash and fire had a section of one southwest Miami-Dade roadway shut down Monday morning.

Chopper 6 was over the scene on Krome Avenue just north of Southwest 8th Street shortly before 7:30 a.m., where one car was scene flipped on its side and another destroyed by flames.

Florida Highway Patrol officials confirmed that the two vehicles collided, with the car that flipped hitting a tree. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both people inside the car that caught fire got out, with the driver being taken to the hospital in stable condition while the passenger was not hurt.

The northbound lanes remain closed  for over four hours before reopening around 11:30 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
