Welcome to the magnet program at Apollo Middle School in Hollywood, where there’s still space available for this school year.

“We infuse technology in every opportunity we can because we know that our kids go home to play with video games, so we need to make their education as interactive, if not more interactive, than those video options that they have at home,” said Apollo’s science department chairman, Luis Espinosa.

If you want your child to have opportunities like seeing photosynthesis and other science lessons on a 3-D projection screen, or studying engineering hands-on with specialized Lego pieces, you just have to have enough vision to check the Broward school district website, www.Browardschoolsinnovativeprograms.com.

In Miami-Dade County, there are still seats available in several magnet programs as well.

NBC 6 visited an Advanced Placement statistics class that has only a handful of students, one of the big advantages of the small-school environment at Jose Marti MAST Academy in Hialeah.

“There are various schools that still have openings, we are one of them,” said Principal Jose Enriquez.

He says as a combined middle and high school dedicated to science and technology, Jose Marti MAST is perfect for science-oriented kids, but both counties have options for everyone.

“Fortunately, there are tremendous amount of magnet programs available, whether students like fine arts or mathematics and science or other particular areas," he said.
