An arrest report said that the father, identified as 33-year-old Brice Martinez, was taking care of the three children and got upset with his 5-year-old son and slammed his head against a concrete wall three times, which caused a laceration that needed five staples.

The child was taken to the hospital by rescue crews and suffered a frontal hematoma.

Martinez then threw his 2-year-old child on the concrete floor and hit his back, the report said.

After the 2-year-old was thrown, the report said, Martinez' 8-year-old child tried to render aid, which upset Martinez and he punched his face.

The 2-year-old and 8-year-old were treated at the scene and released to their mother.

After the 5-year-old was transported, Martinez barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to get out.

SWAT teams used loudspeakers as they attempted to coax the father out of the apartment.

Several people were outside, standing on their balconies as they waited to see how the situation would end.

"Working with children and having a child of my own it's very scary to feel a parent did this to a child," said a resident.

"I heard police talking through the speaker, so I came out to see what was happened," said a resident.

Martinez eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

He is facing charges of child abuse.
