Authorities say a man is brain dead after hanging himself in the Volusia County Branch Jail.
Officials found Vincent Tarvin, 29, hanging from his bunk bed around midnight Tuesday. His cellmate told authorities that Tarvin's girlfriend had hanged herself several days earlier. According to an incident report, his cellmate also said Tarvin told him he was going through drug withdrawal.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Tarvin was arrested Sunday for failing to appear in court and for possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana and has a lengthy arrest record.
