A man accused of stabbing another man inside a movie theater at Dolphin Mall over the weekend is facing multiple charges, authorities said.

Luis Reynaldo Chavez, 56, was arrested at the mall on Saturday on charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, attempted tampering with physical evidence, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer without violence, according to an arrest report.

The report said Chavez was in the mall's Cobb Theaters in a showing of "No Manches Frida 2" when he accused the person who was sitting behind him of bumping the seat with his foot. The victim told Chavez he hadn't touched the seat, and Chavez called the victim by a Spanish term that "is a derogatory word for homosexuality," the report said.

The victim told Chavez to stop disrespecting him in front of his kids and stood up, and that's when Chavez lunged at the victim, stabbing him in the abdomen and slashing his right arm with a pocket knife, the report said.

Chavez ran from the scene and went into a women's restroom, where he threw the knife into a bathroom stall, the report said. An off-duty officer who heard the commotion responded and held Chavez until more officers responded and took Chavez into custody.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Chavez was being held on $16,500 bond Monday, Miami-Dade jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
