Man Falls to Death on Carnival Cruise in Bahamas

Authorities clear cruise to sail on Saturday morning.

The bad news for Miami-based Carnival Corporation continues in January as company officials confirmed that a 26-year old man died on-board one of their cruises yesterday evening when he fell from the upper levels of the ship’s atrium.

According to a statement released by the cruise line, the Carnival Fantasy was docked in Nassau when the man fell from the upper levels all the way down to the lobby level.

It went on to say that local authorities were immediately notified of the accident and boarded the ship to conduct a full investigation.

Although the ship was cleared to sail by authorities this morning, the delay produced by the investigation caused the cruise to cancel its sail to Freeport . It was scheduled to leave Nassau at 3 p.m.

The Carnival Fantasy is on a 5-day Caribbean cruise from Charleston, South Carolina.

Carnival Corporation is the parent company of cruise line that owns the Costa Concordia which tragically ran aground off the coast of an Italian island earlier this month.

Authorities continue to search for bodies in the disaster with seventeen having already been found and 15 still missing.
