Man fleeing gas station robbery killed after crashing into tree in NW Miami-Dade

Police said man fled from officers after struggle with robbery victim

Authorities are investigating after a robbery susoect who was fleeing from officers was killed when he crashed into a tree in Miami-Dade, police said.

A robbery suspect who fled from police was killed when he crashed into a tree in northwest Miami-Dade Thursday night, officials said.

Miami-Dade Police officials the incident happened around 6 p.m. at a Chevron gas station on Northwest 54th Street.

A woman was at the gas station when the suspect approached and reached into her car and tried stole some of her property, police said.

Police said the woman and the suspect got into a suspect, and the suspect threw her property and fled in his car.

Officers attempted to stop the fleeing suspect's vehicle, but the vehicle refused to stop, Miami-Dade Police spokkesman Angel Rodriguez said.

Police eventually disengaged from pursuing the vehicle, but despite not being chased, the suspect continued to flee at a high rate of speed, officials said.

The suspect's vehicle eventually crashed in the area of Northwest 58th Street and 15th Avenue, hitting two other vehicles and slamming into a tree, officials said.

City of Miami Fire Rescue paramedics responded and had to extricate the man from the vehicle.

He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police did not release any information on his age or identity.

The incident remains under investigation.
