Man Shot in Motel Parking Lot

Police investigate after gunman opens fire in Dania Beach

An overnight shooting near a Dania Beach motel sent a man to the hospital, and guests who had left the motel previously were unable to return to their rooms for hours.

"It's pretty scary stuff actually,” says Raul Robles vacationing from Puerto Rico.

The incident happened around midnight at the Red Carpet Inn in the 24000 block of State Road 84.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene after getting a call that someone had been shot three to four times on the side of the motel. The victim ran into the front office asking for help and motel staff called 911.

The unidentified victim was taken to Broward General Hospital where he is in stable condition.

Police are still looking for the gunman, who used a semi-automatic pistol and wore a mask, police said. He may have taken off in a maroon or dark red, four-door car, possibly a Japanese model.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

"It's pretty scary stuff actually,” says Raul Robles, who was vacationing from Puerto Rico. "I’m pretty upset at the fact that my flight leaves around 3 or 4 hours and I have to get all my belongings in my room and I can't go into the hotel the officers aid for another hour or two. I'm pretty nervous actually cause I don't want to miss my flight.”

Officers later escorted him inside while their investigation continued.

Daylight revealed blood stains on the ground and covering a blue Honda in the parking lot.

"I said it's either firecrackers or gunfire,” said guest Walter Findley. "Ten minutes later you could see the police lights.”

It was a hectic night and rough start to the morning for hotel guests who thought they were checking in to peace and quiet.

"Too much activity, too many people walking around too late. I'm just a regular customer trying to get some sleep. You shouldn't have too much activity after 12,” Findley said.

Hotel staff said they had no comment about the shooting. The victim was taken to Broward General in stable condition.

The shooter was seen wearing a mask and may have taken off in a dark red or maroon four-door car.
